exterior louvered shutters on a historic home

Louvered Exterior Shutters

Louvered Shutters offer tasteful signature styling and a timeless accent to homes. Both our Cedar and Fiberglass Shutters are true open louvers in keeping with historic integrity. The Wood Composite Louvered Shutter is a more economical choice with faux louvers.

    Cedar

Cedar is renowned for its naturally-occurring resistance to moisture, decay and insect damage. Its appearance, natural durability, and dimensional stability make Western Red Cedar ideal for exterior shutters.

    Architectural

Our Fiberglass shutters are a mixture of materials depending on the style. The stiles for all the panels are protruded Fiberglass as are the louvers in the louvered shutter. The rails are structural grade PVC and the panels are Extra.

    Classic

Our Composite Wood shutters are made from Extra, a proprietary material that resists moisture, rot and termites. It offers a lower maintenance over the lifetime of the shutter.

    Exterior Shutter Construction

    Mortise & Tenon

Mortise and Tenon Joinery had been used for thousands of years. The inherent strength of this traditional joint is further reinforced with mahogany dowels and glue.

    Component ?

Priming is an important part of the finishing process but doing so after the shutters are assembled posses a problem, as you can’t get primer to the areas you can’t see. Because the parts of a wood shutter are designed to float, this exposes these areas to the elements when they expand and contract. As part of our priming process, we prime all these areas before we assemble the shutter. This ensures the integrity of the shutters for years to come.

    Shutter Capping

Shutter capping protects the shutter from snow and water resting on the top. Aluminum capping is standard and can be upgraded with Copper.

    Shutter Options

    Cutouts

Cutouts can add both character and charm. You can use one of our many standard cutouts or provide us with artwork of your own and we can custom design one for you.

    Rabbet & Bead

Rabbet is a groove cut into the edge of the stile to allow the shutters to overlap each other when closed. The Bead is a decorative detail that runs the length of the stile. Both can be added just as a historical detail.

    Tilt Rod & Mouse Hole

Tilt Rod & Mouse Hole are needed for operable louvered shutters or can be added for a decorative touch

    Mortising

Mortising allows certain Hinges, H Style, Parliament and Acme, to be recessed into the panel. A corresponding hinge is needed on the window frame.

    Radius Tops

Radius Tops follow the curved contours of the window. Depending on the style, different options are available to customize them.
